Phil Horrocks
With over two decades of hands-on experience in arboriculture, Phil has established themself as a trusted and highly skilled tree surgeon. Beginning their career in the early 2000s, Phil developed a deep understanding of tree health, maintenance, and safety, Phil has worked in almost every aspect of the industry ranging from forestry to domestic settings with his main skill base in aerial work.
After building a solid reputation for technical expertise and dedication to best practices, Phil transitioned into training and mentoring the next generation of arborists. They now deliver practical and classroom-based training, sharing a wealth of knowledge with both newcomers and seasoned professionals.
In addition to the training role, Phil is a qualified assessor for City & Guilds, evaluating candidates seeking industry-recognised qualifications. Their commitment to upholding high standards ensures that those entering the profession are fully competent and safety-conscious. Phil’s influence continues to shape the future of arboriculture, combining technical skill with a dedication to education and pratical hands on.
Simon Phillips
I am a instructor and assessor for Lantra and a Assessor for City and Guilds . I am also a NVQ assessor for Fencing and a LOLER inspector for Arboriculture equipment and hold a Tech cert arb qualification, a Professional tree inspector, NCH in Arboriculture and a NVQ level 1 and 2 in forestry and a trainer and assessor for Bali. I have been training and assessing since 2013.
I started in the industry in towards the end of 1994 and worked as a contractor ever since which I still do on the odd occasion to this date as I still work as a subbie climber from time to time.
I have work in the for various firms around the southwest, London and the South East of England and have worked in countries such as the USA, France and Sardinia carrying out tree work.
Units I teach and Assess are :
Ground based units include:
Cross cut and chainsaw maintenance, Small tree felling, medium tree felling, large tree felling, assisted tree felling, arboriculture ground worker, break down of broad leaved crown, assisted tree felling. safe use of a brushwood chipper.
Aerial units include:
Tree climb and aerial rescue, chainsaw from a rope and harness, aerial tree pruning, aerial tree rigging, safe use of a MEWP, Chainsaw from a MEWP.
Utility Arb units include:
Basic electrical knowledge, utility tree species recognition and associated hazards, utility ground based pruning, utility assisted tree felling, utility aerial tree pruning, utility pole felling, utility arboriculture surveyor, utility chainsaw from a MEWP.
